Short trip to Bonifacio...Corsica will definitely see me again

A day trip to Bonifacio from Sardinia is straightforward – especially if you want to travel flexibly and book the ferry yourself.

During a trip to Sardinia with one of my best friends, we spontaneously took a day trip to Bonifacio in Corsica – and it was a real highlight!

We drove to the port in our rental car and took the ferry across. This was not only significantly cheaper than booking a trip through an agency, but also much more relaxing: We could plan our day as we pleased, enjoy the beautiful view from the deck, and relax along the way.

There's even a restaurant on board – although it was closed due to corona during our trip, everything else is well organized and straightforward.

A short trip that was absolutely worthwhile – especially for those who like to travel flexibly and want to get a taste of Corsica for a day!

Day trip to Bonifacio – an unforgettable highlight

Once we reached the port, we explored Bonifacio on foot – be sure to bring plenty of water! It was incredibly hot in June, and as is often the case in very touristy places, prices were correspondingly high.

Nevertheless, every step was worth it: We hiked – or rather, climbed – to a secluded cove. Sneakers would definitely have been a better choice than my flip-flops! After several kilometers through sometimes rocky terrain, we were rewarded with turquoise water and an almost deserted cove – an absolute must-see for me!

Bonifacio: Old Town, Views & Atmosphere

Bonifacio also has a lot to offer architecturally: winding alleys, charming squares, cozy restaurants, and small bars with sea views. The ice cream was especially delicious! The people were friendly but not pushy – a pleasant feeling, especially when traveling alone or as a woman.

French, English, or Italian will get you far everywhere.

We are certain: We definitely want to go back – but next time for a bit longer, to explore the rest of the island of Corsica.

From woman to woman

Taking the ferry is a manageable expense that's absolutely worth it. In summer, I recommend sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and plenty of water, as everything is very expensive locally. The scenery and atmosphere are truly special, and it's a place everyone should see. We didn't experience any crime, but as always, keep an eye on your belongings, handbag, phone, etc. Otherwise, I never felt unsafe or threatened, and there were no incidents of harassment whatsoever. So, from my perspective as a woman traveling alone, it's perfectly manageable. Trust your intuition, and you'll be welcomed and surrounded by a beautiful atmosphere.
