Sardinia here we come

A few days in Sardinia are always possible...especially with a rental car. This gives you independence and allows you to start at your own pace.

North coast

The trip was limited to just a few days and focused on the north. It was during Covid, so naturally it was much less crowded than usual...which I always find very pleasant.

There are beautiful beaches, sand or pebbles...with or without sea urchins. Getting there is usually straightforward, and parking fees are generally very reasonable. Personally, I'd recommend starting your day at any beach, because by midday it's packed like a sardine can, and the beach vendors can be quite pushy. Naturally, the beach bars are far from cheap, but I doubt anyone really expected them to be.

Excursions, transportation, and more.

We went sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, ate on the boat, snorkeled – basically everything you could wish for. At around €100 per person, it certainly wasn't the cheapest option, but with only a few people on the boat, I much preferred it to being on a huge ship. A day trip to Bonifacio was also easily doable by ferry and well worth it. The ancient ruins are definitely worth a visit, but don't forget good shoes and water... I was, as usual, only wearing flip-flops, which wasn't ideal.

Animal welfare and safety

I felt safe everywhere. Apart from the beach vendors, you're not approached, let alone harassed, even in the dark. Of course, you shouldn't be careless here either and should keep an eye on your valuables, but that's true pretty much everywhere.

Yes, you see a few stray cats, but I also saw feeding stations and fresh water, so no horror scenarios in that regard, unlike in Morocco.

From woman to woman

Sardinia is definitely worth a visit. It offers beautiful scenery, delicious food, lively atmosphere, but also peace and quiet – whatever you're looking for... and all of this is safe and doable on your own... although not exactly cheap.
